Description
Castello della Sala Bramìto della Sala Chardonnay is a white from Umbria, made at the Antinori estate that did much to prove central Italy could take Chardonnay seriously.
Castello della Sala is a fourteenth-century castle set in the hills above Orvieto, and has been in Antinori hands since 1940. The estate made its name with Cervaro della Sala, the barrel-fermented Chardonnay that helped establish a fine white wine culture in a country then known almost entirely for its reds. Bramìto is the estate's other Chardonnay, drawn from the same volcanic and clay soils at altitude, fermented and matured in part in French oak with the balance handled in stainless steel. It carries the house approach at a more everyday scale, and is made in far greater quantity than its senior partner. The name refers to the belling of the stag, an animal long associated with the estate.
Serve well chilled with roast chicken, veal, or richer fish dishes such as turbot or monkfish.
