Description
Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Blanc de Blancs is the house's Vertus-based Côte des Blancs Chardonnay, offered here in magnum.
The vineyards behind Latitude lie on the southern side of Vertus at roughly the same latitude, which gives the cuvée its name and hints at the breadth of texture these clay-influenced soils produce. Larmandier-Bernier ferments mostly in large-format casks, almost all of them now from the Austrian cooper Stockinger, with natural fermentation and malolactic conversion and no filtration. The bottles mature for more than two years, are disgorged by hand and dosed at extra-brut levels, four grams per litre here, at least six months before release. This release is based on the 2018 vintage with 40 per cent reserve wine from a perpetual reserve begun in 2004, and it was disgorged in May 2023. It is pure and mineral, with stone-fruited depth carried by the chalky, citrusy energy that defines the estate, and the magnum format keeps it fresher for longer.
Ready to drink and well suited to a long table; serve at 8°C with fish, terrines, lemon chicken or a plate of soft and hard cheeses.
