Château Cantemerle, Grand Cru Classé is a classed growth of the Haut-Médoc, made at an estate set within a large wooded park at Macau.

The property lies just south of the Margaux boundary and was one of the few Haut-Médoc estates included in the 1855 classification, where it was entered at the last minute at the foot of the list. Its vineyard sits on gravel soils, and the surrounding park of tall trees is as much a part of the estate's character as the vines themselves. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot lead the blend, supported by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, hand sorted before fermentation and matured in French oak barrels. The château has been owned since the early 1980s by a French insurance group, which has funded steady renovation of vineyard and cellar.

Serve with lamb, beef or roast poultry, and decant if the wine is young.
