Description
Château des Tourettes Tinus Chardonnay Plateau de l'Aigle is the earlier-drinking release from the l'Aigle terroir at Jean-Marie Guffens' southern French estate.
Jean-Marie Guffens, better known for Verget and Guffens-Heynen in the Mâconnais, established Château des Tourettes in the south of France to work Chardonnay in a warmer setting. The l'Aigle plateau is a limestone site whose natural richness and density inform the style of both wines drawn from it. This bottling is the younger sibling of the Grand Blanc, and Guffens selects only the purest, naturally tense free-run juices for it. Ageing is deliberately restrained: eight months in barrel, a quarter of them new, followed by a further ten months in concrete vats on fine lees. That combination preserves freshness while the concrete builds a creamy, rolling texture, giving a wine with the hazelnut-oil richness of the terroir carried by citrus-peel tang and chalky, driving acidity.
Ready on release and good for four or five years; serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, grilled bream or a mild washed-rind cheese.
