Description

Château Laballe Bas Armagnac in this release was bottled from a single cask, Pièce n°A1-12, and is 100% Ugni Blanc.

Bas Armagnac, in Gascony, is the sandy western heart of the region, and Château Laballe farms and distils at Parleboscq on the edge of the Landes forest. The estate was bought in 1820 by Jean-Dominique Laudet and remains in the family. What distinguishes Laballe's vintage releases is that they are treated as individual barrels rather than blended to a house profile: distillation takes place in the domaine's wood-fired copper still, built in 1923, and each spirit then rests in Chêne Noir Gascon, 410-litre casks coopered from oak grown in the Landes nearby. Extended maturation in that thick-grained wood contributes tannin and spice over many years. There is no added colour and no filtration, and bottling is brut de fût, at the natural strength the cask has reached.

Serve it neat at room temperature in a tulip glass after a meal, with dark chocolate, dried fruit or a mature cheese; an opened bottle keeps for years.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
