Description
Chateau Pichon Comtesse Chateau Pichon-Lalande, 2eme G.C.C, 1855 is a Pauillac Second Growth sitting on the boundary where Pauillac meets Saint-Julien.
The original Pichon Longueville estate was split in the nineteenth century between the heirs of Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville, and this half took the name of his daughter Virginie, Comtesse de Lalande. Its vineyards adjoin Chateau Latour, with a portion lying across the commune line in Saint-Julien, and the blend has long carried a higher proportion of Merlot than is usual for Pauillac. May-Eliane de Lencquesaing ran the property from the late 1970s and made its modern reputation; since 2007 it has belonged to the Rouzaud family of Champagne Louis Roederer, who have invested heavily in the vineyard and cellars.
Give it time in the cellar, then decant an hour or two ahead and serve at around 17 degrees with roast lamb or beef. Stand older bottles upright for a day first so that any sediment settles.
