Description
Château Talbot, 4ème G.C.C, 1855 is a Saint-Julien red grown on one of the largest single blocks of vines in the Médoc.
The name is traditionally linked to John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, the English commander killed at Castillon in 1453, though the connection to this particular land is more legend than record. The estate was ranked a fourth growth in 1855 and passed to the Cordier family in the early twentieth century, whose descendants run it still. The vineyard is unusual in the Médoc for being an unbroken parcel, set on gravel in the middle of the Saint-Julien appellation, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and a little Petit Verdot. The wine is matured in oak barrels, a portion of them new each year.
Decant and serve at around 17 degrees with roast lamb, beef or game birds; it becomes approachable at about ten years and rewards considerably longer.
