Description
Coeur Clémentine Côtes de Provence Rosé is a direct-press rosé built around Grenache, Cinsault and the rare local Tibouren, from organically managed vineyards at Puget-Ville.
Côtes de Provence is the largest appellation in the south-east of France and covers a great deal of ordinary wine, so the interest lies in who is growing what and where. Puget-Ville sits inland in the Var, in the centre of the appellation, on chalk and clay parcels that hold cooler night temperatures than the coastal sites. The blend leads with Grenache and Cinsault, adds a splash of Syrah, and includes Tibouren, an indigenous Provençal variety now planted in small quantity and valued for the garrigue character — the scent of the region’s wild herb scrub — that it brings. The fruit is organically farmed. Jean-Christophe Audéoud handles the winemaking, using the traditional direct-press method rather than saignée, and matures the wine in a combination of concrete and stainless steel. It is bottled under screwcap.
Drink young, within two or three years of the vintage. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled prawns, a salade Niçoise or barbecued chicken.
