Commune of Buttons Basket Town Chardonnay 2024

Commune of Buttons Basket Town Chardonnay is a savoury Adelaide Hills Chardonnay drawn from two sites.

Two vineyards feed this wine. The Udys vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley sits at 450 metres on red clay over sandstone, quartz and schist; the rest comes off the home vineyard at Basket Range, where Jasper Button farms the family property. Each parcel was direct-pressed on a slow cycle and moved to barrel once settled. What follows takes its time — a long, slow natural ferment, one winter on lees in barrel, then racking to tank with the lees for a second winter, where they buffer the wine against oxidation and hold its freshness. Nothing is rushed and nothing is stripped out.

Savoury in the way the whites here always are, with a mineral throughline and genuine palate weight from a warmer season. Serve at 12 degrees. Roast chicken, a bowl of clams, or a tart of leek and parmesan.
