Commune of Buttons Nebbiolo Rosé 2023

Commune of Buttons Nebbiolo Rosé is a dry rosé made entirely from Nebbiolo grown at Basket Range.

The source is a scrap of vines: 0.2 hectares within the 1.5-hectare Clover vineyard, sitting at 350 metres on clay, sandstone and quartz. Picking ran late, at the beginning of May, and the fruit was destemmed to tank for a week before being pressed off and matured for eighteen months. That long, slow finish is unusual for a rosé, and it is what gives the wine its shape and grip. Nebbiolo in the Adelaide Hills is still the work of a handful of growers, and Jasper Button's take on it leans savoury.

Cherry, cardamom and currant, with persistent ashy tannins and juicy acidity holding it all together. Serve at 10 to 11 degrees, in a wine glass. Try it with charcuterie, grilled sardines, or a chicken and tarragon sandwich.
