Description
Commune of Buttons Pompette is a light Adelaide Hills red blend of Syrah and Pinot Noir.
The name borrows the French for pleasantly tipsy, and Jasper Button calls this his little bistro red, which sets expectations fairly. Syrah from the Kas Sluiter vineyard makes up 80 per cent of the blend, with 20 per cent Pinot Noir from the Piccadilly Valley. Both were hand harvested, destemmed and fermented over two to three weeks, then matured ten months in fibreglass tanks, which keeps oak out of the equation entirely. The balance is the whole point: fruit generosity, acidity and aromatics all pulling in the same direction.
Light, juicy and easy on the tannin, with red fruit, a twist of pepper and enough acid to reset the palate between mouthfuls. Serve it cool, 13 to 14 degrees. Roast chicken, pasta with sausage, or cheese and bread.
