Corofin Marlborough Chardonnay 2021

Corofin Marlborough Chardonnay is the first release of the estate's village-level blend, drawn from two Brancott Valley sites.

Wrekin supplies 70 per cent and Folium the remaining 30, both in the Brancott Valley. Folium was planted by Fromm in 1996, is organically tended and dry-grown on Southern Valley clay around 1.5 metres deep over gravelly silt, and yields Corofin just five rows — 1,200 vines. Wrekin is a small, BioGro-certified, biodynamically farmed site at the top of the valley. Both blocks came off on 6 March. Bunches were slowly pressed over six hours, the juice moved with plenty of solids to seasoned French puncheons and two stainless barrels, and the wine stayed thirteen months on lees before four in tank. Full malolactic conversion, bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Stone fruit, grilled nuts and a wisp of smoky reduction, then a full-flavoured palate with snappy acidity and mouth-watering phenolic grip through a layered finish. The low-yielding season shows in the drive. Serve at 12 degrees with roast chicken, pork cutlets, or crab.
