Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Chardonnay 2020

Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Chardonnay is an organically grown Chardonnay from one of the Brancott Valley's highest sites.

Jan and Andrew Johns own the vineyard and Jeremy Highland farms it, in the lee of the Southern Valley scarps on clay-rich soils over greywacke, planted northeast at 4,000 vines per hectare to keep vigour in check. Being among the highest blocks in the valley, it is often the last picked each year. Hand-harvested and pressed as whole bunches, the wine fermented wild on high solids in three seasoned 500-litre French puncheons and a 300-litre stainless barrel, went to tank at five months and stayed on lees for another five. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Flowers and wet stone on the nose, then a sleek, elegant palate balancing alluring texture against a precise, savoury finish — a Chablis-shaped Corofin vintage, and better for the cool season. Serve at 12 degrees with oysters, sole, or a goat's cheese salad.
