Dandelion Vineyards Lionheart of the Barossa Shiraz is a dark, savoury Barossa Shiraz in a convenient 375ml bottle.

Elena and Zar Brooks set up Dandelion in 2007 to give old South Australian vineyards and their growers a voice. Lionheart comes from the Barossa, where warm, dry summers suit Shiraz, and it is made in a fresher, more savoury style than many of its neighbours. The 2023 is deep black-purple with plum, mint, blueberry and star anise, backed by just a trace of oak spice. An earthy grip and a firm acid line carry the fruit, making this a next-generation Barossa red that gives plenty without being demanding.

A half bottle is handy for a weeknight steak or a shared cheese board. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees; it is drinking well now.
