Domaine Chermette Les Griottes 5 Litre Box Bag 5L 2023

Domaine Chermette Les Griottes is a bright, cherry-fruited Beaujolais from granite soils in the south of the region, packaged as a five-litre bag-in-box.

Les Griottes takes its name from the grove of cherry trees that flanks the vineyard, and the fruit comes from 30- to 40-year-old Gamay vines on dark granite around the Chermette homestead at Saint-Vérand, in southern Beaujolais. Unlike the domaine’s age-worthy crus from Moulin-à-Vent and Fleurie, this is made to be light to medium-bodied and immediately drinkable. The winemaking has not changed in decades: traditional whole-bunch, semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete tanks, followed by maturation in tank and old oak casks. The nose is exuberant, flush with easy red fruit and red floral notes, and the palate follows with tangy berries and cherrystone fruit. The five-litre bag-in-box keeps the wine fresh for several weeks once opened, which suits a wine of this style.

Drink now and over the next couple of years. Serve at 14-16°C, slightly cool, with charcuterie, roast chicken or a barbecue.
