Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc 2016

Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc is one of the very few white wines made in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation.

White Nuits-Saint-Georges is a rarity, a few hectares in an appellation of more than three hundred, and most of what exists comes from the far south of the commune. Domaine de l'Arlot has a parcel of white varieties inside its monopole Clos de l'Arlot at Prémeaux-Prissey, on the steep, shallow limestone of the terraced upper part of the clos. The blend is led by Chardonnay with a share of Pinot Gris, the old Burgundian Pinot Beurot, which adds breadth and a faintly spicy edge. The fruit is pressed in whole bunches, fermented and aged in barrel with a small proportion of new wood, and left on its fine lees for texture rather than for any obvious oak character.

It drinks well young but gains complexity with a few years in bottle. Serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, veal in cream or a soft-rind goat's cheese.
