Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 2023

Domaine de l’Arlot Clos des Forêts Saint Georges is a Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru monopole whose single walled slope covers three separate limestone terroirs.

Clos des Forêts Saint Georges is the larger of Domaine de l’Arlot’s two monopoles, 7.2 hectares at Prémeaux running the full width of the slope from the forest at the top to the road at the bottom. That span takes in three distinct terroirs: white oolitic limestone at the summit, pink Prémeaux limestone through the middle, and clay-rich Ladoix limestone at the base. Géraldine Godot now farms, picks and vinifies each of them separately, and the effect on the wine has been marked. Historically this was the most structured and profoundly Nuits-like red in the range; in recent years the separate handling of the parcels has drawn out a more Prémeaux, more l’Arlot character, with the depth still there under a finer surface. The 2023 was made from wholly destemmed fruit, fermented spontaneously and aged sixteen months in French oak, 40 per cent new.

Best given four or five years and good for fifteen or more. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, pigeon or a mature Époisses.
