Domaine des Croix Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne 2021

Domaine des Croix Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne comes from two high parcels totalling a quarter of a hectare in the white marls of Le Charlemagne.

Corton-Charlemagne wraps around the upper part of the Corton hill, where pale marl replaces the redder clay that suits Pinot Noir lower down. David Croix works mainly in and around Beaune and makes very little white, but this has been a fixture of his range for years. The fruit comes from two small, high plots totalling 0.25 hectares, both in Le Charlemagne above the historical holdings of Bonneau du Martray, one facing west and the other north, on either side of the climat. They were planted in 1984-85 and 1988-89 and have been organically managed since 2008. Both are prone to millerandage, giving small bunches of ripe golden berries. Pruning finished late in March, and yields came in at 30 hl/ha. The wine was made without new oak.

Worth five years and capable of fifteen or more. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, lobster or a mature Comté.
