Description
Dureuil-Janthial's Bourgogne Blanc comes from a 0.4-hectare plot of fifty-year-old vines in the Puligny-Montrachet lieu-dit La Combe.
Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is based at Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise, where he has built one of the region's leading domaines, but this bottling comes from further north, in Puligny-Montrachet. The parcel in La Combe sits on silt, clay and limestone and is planted to vines around fifty years old, which is unusual for a wine sold at regional level. Fermentation is natural, and the wine is raised with only about ten per cent new oak, so the emphasis falls on the site rather than the barrel. Dureuil works his vineyards with a light hand and low yields across the range. The result tastes like a scaled-down Puligny, and it is consistently one of the better-value white Burgundies at this level.
Ready on release and good for five or six years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast chicken or a soft goat's cheese.
