Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns is the domaine's earliest-picked site and its most openly generous premier cru.

Aux Beaux Bruns lies close to the village on the same latitude as Les Charmes and shares that site's fleshy, textural personality, though in a more open frame with an earthy, rocky complexity of its own. The soils carry a good deal of red clay along with plenty of limestone pebbles, and the parcel is always the first of the Barthod holdings to be harvested. Ghislaine Barthod farms 0.73 hectares here, planted about sixty-five years ago, which makes this one of the larger cuvées in a range otherwise built from fractions of a hectare. The winemaking follows the same pattern across the cellar: whole-berry fruit, a measured hand with extraction and oak kept in a supporting role, so the aromatic and hedonistic side of the terroir is what comes through.

The most approachable of the domaine's premiers crus, good from two or three years and holding for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with duck breast, mushroom tart or a mild washed-rind cheese.
