Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre Blanc 2022

Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre Blanc is a biodynamic Chardonnay from the chalky slopes around Saint-Bris, in the far north of Burgundy.

Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre is the regional appellation covering the vineyards around Auxerre, geologically closer to Chablis than to the Côte d'Or and consistently one of the better-value corners of white Burgundy. Goisot farms biodynamically at Saint-Bris and blends this wine from a range of chalky terroirs, working at low yields. The wine was traditionally raised entirely in tank; more recently around 10 per cent has been matured in 600-litre demi-muids, which adds a little breadth without putting any obvious oak character into the glass. The style is taut and mineral rather than broad, with the fleshiness coming from ripe fruit and lees rather than from wood, and it is a good marker for what the Auxerrois can do in careful hands.

Drink now and over the next four years. Serve at 11-12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a gruyère tart.
