Description
Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre Corps de Garde Blanc is a biodynamic Chardonnay raised entirely in barrel, named after the family’s fourteenth-century guardhouse.
The Côtes d’Auxerre sit in the Yonne, in northern Burgundy near Chablis, and the Goisot family have farmed at Saint-Bris for generations, working biodynamically. This cuvée is cropped from the lieux-dits of Belle Croix, Biaumont, Gondonne, Chaussan and Gueules de Loup, together with a selection of parcels too small to vinify separately. Vine age across the sites averages thirty-five to forty years, and the soils are a mix of Portlandian and Kimmeridgian limestone, the same two formations that shape Chablis. The wine is raised exclusively in barrel, including some 500-litre demi-muids, one-third of them new. The name comes from the family’s fourteenth-century guardhouse and cellar, probably used as a hideout when the village came under attack in the medieval period. The style is svelte and saline, with ripe yellow fruit and a subtle phenolic grip.
Drinking well now and good for five years or so. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a gruyère tart.
