Domaine Henri Germain Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes Rouge 2022

Beaune Bressandes takes its name, like the Corton Grand Cru of the same name, from Jean Bressand, a thirteenth-century Canon of Beaune.

Beaune's Premier Cru vineyards run in a band above the town, and Bressandes lies high on that slope, not far in a straight line from the hill of Corton. Domaine Henri Germain, now run by Jean-François Germain in Meursault, is better known for white wine, but the reds have been reworked in recent years towards a fresher, more tightly drawn style. The parcel here was planted between 1960 and 1965 and sits high on the hill, adjoining David Croix's vines. It is the deepest of the domaine's reds, but it keeps the sappy, finely structured character that marks the current approach in the cellar, with restrained extraction and modest use of new oak.

Give it two or three years and drink over the following decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, beef bourguignon or a soft rind cheese.
