Domaine Jaeger Defaix Rully 1er Cru Rabourcé Blanc 2022

Domaine Jaeger-Defaix Rully 1er Cru Rabourcé Blanc comes from a steep limestone site long nicknamed the Montrachet of Rully.

Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise and makes roughly two-thirds of its wine in white, from Chardonnay on limestone slopes that are a continuation of the Côte de Beaune. Rabourcé is a very steep premier cru west of the village, above the well-regarded Cloux vineyard and just below the woods, on soils made up largely of white, limestone-rich clay. It is reliably one of Rully’s earliest sites to ripen, and it has a reputation for richness and power rather than the leaner style often associated with the appellation. The Jaeger-Defaix vines here are now between forty and forty-five years old. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised in used oak barrels, so the oak sits behind the fruit rather than in front of it. It is bottled under Diam closure.

Ready after a year or two in bottle and worth holding for up to eight. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, poached salmon or a gruyère tart.
