Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, in magnum, comes from a hectare within Chapelot, separated from grand cru Blanchot by a narrow ravine.

Montée de Tonnerre is generally counted the finest of the Chablis premiers crus, sitting on the right bank of the Serein alongside the grand cru slope, with a sandy, rocky topsoil rich in Kimmeridgian limestone. The parcel behind this wine lies within the lieu-dit of Chapelot, divided from Blanchot only by a narrow ravine, and covers a hectare across two contiguous plots, one of fifty-year-old vines and one replanted more recently. Moreau-Naudet hand-harvests, presses gently, ferments with natural yeasts and matures its premiers crus in a combination of tank and used barrels over an extended period. Sealed under Diam. The wine is concentrated and layered, seductive on the one hand and thoroughly earthy and mineral on the other.

Worth three to five years and good for a decade or more in magnum; serve with lobster, roast poultry or hard cheese at 10-12°C.
