Description
Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Les Pargues Vieilles Vignes comes from a lieu-dit on the ridge between the Montmains and Vosgros Premiers Crus.
Les Pargues shares its exposure with Vaillons and Montmains, which makes it a very handy site for a village-level Chablis. The story locally is that it was classified as a Premier Cru before the AOC system arrived, was largely abandoned during the war for want of labour, and so missed out on the status it deserved when the appellation was formalised. Whatever the accuracy of that account, growers speak highly of the position and its thin, stony soils, which give an intense and mineral wine. Moreau-Naudet's parcel is tiny, the vines average more than fifty years, and yields of 15 to 25 hectolitres per hectare are typical. The wine is vinified with only ten per cent barrel, so the Kimmeridgian character comes through undisturbed.
Drink over the next six to eight years. Serve at 10–12°C with oysters, grilled prawns or a simple white fish.
