Domaine Santa Duc Gigondas 'Clos Derrière' 2021

Domaine Santa Duc Gigondas 'Clos Derrière' is an old-vine Grenache blend from a single walled parcel in Gigondas.

North-east of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the appellation climbs toward the Dentelles de Montmirail on limestone scree and clay, with higher, cooler sites that give structure and freshness. The vineyards are certified organic and worked biodynamically. Yves Gras took the family domaine to the front rank from the 1980s, and Benjamin Gras now runs it. Syrah and Mourvèdre support the old Grenache from this enclosed plot, which is fermented with wild yeasts and some whole bunches, then aged in large wood and concrete.

Lifted and medium-weight for a southern Rhône red, with red fruit, wild herbs and a stony finish. Good at 16–18°C with lamb, slow-cooked daube or grilled vegetables.
