Domaine Stéphane Aladame Bourgogne ‘Mon Blanc’ 2020

Mon Blanc is a Bourgogne Blanc from a single south-facing plot at Saint-Clément-sur-Guye, in the hills west of the Côte Chalonnaise.

Stéphane Aladame built his reputation in Montagny, where he took over a small domaine as a teenager in the 1990s and has worked with Chardonnay ever since. This wine comes from outside that appellation: a plot in the village of Saint-Clément-sur-Guye, the home village of his wife Julie, in the folded country of the Couchois behind the Chalonnaise. The lieu-dit is Le Clou, facing south on clay and limestone between 360 and 385 metres, high enough to hold acidity in warm years. The fruit is whole-bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeasts, then raised mostly in tank with a portion in older barrels, which adds a little texture without any new-oak character. The title is plain enough, meaning simply 'my white'.

Drinking well now and worth keeping three to five years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a soft washed-rind cheese.
