Description
Domaine Stéphane Aladame Montagny 1er Cru ‘Découverte’ is a Côte Chalonnaise white blended from two Premier Cru vineyards.
Montagny sits at the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise and is planted entirely to Chardonnay. The appellation is unusual in Burgundy for the sheer number of Premier Cru vineyards it carries, and Stéphane Aladame is candid that not all of them fully earn the rank. He has worked here since taking over a small parcel holding as a teenager and is now the reference grower for the appellation. Découverte is drawn from two Premier Cru sites, Les Maroques and Les Gouresses, both on limestone-rich soil, using fruit from younger vines planted between 1995 and 2014. The blend is designed as an accessible introduction to the domaine rather than a single-site statement, and it carries its classification lightly, with the clean citrus drive and chalky cut that mark good Montagny.
Drinking well now and over the next four years. Serve at 10-12°C alongside oysters, chicken terrine or a simple pasta with cream and herbs.
