Domaine Stéphane Aladame Montagny 1er Cru Les Coères 2019

Les Coères is an east-facing premier cru in Montagny, of which Stéphane Aladame farms just half a hectare.

Montagny lies at the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise and is planted entirely to Chardonnay, with an unusually large proportion of its land classified as premier cru. Aladame took over his first vines here as a teenager in the early 1990s and has become the commune's benchmark producer. His parcels in Les Coères fall in the Montagny-les-Buxy section of the site, on deep marl and blue clay at 290 metres, ground that holds water well and pushes the picking date back. Two parcels contribute, the older planted in 1985, supplemented by a portion of Chardonnay Muscaté, an old strain of the variety that Benjamin Leroux also works with in Meursault Narvaux. The wine was fermented and raised for ten months entirely in neutral 350-litre oak barrels.

Drinking well now and good for five years; serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast chicken or a soft cheese.
