Gratin Dauphinois (Creamy Potato Bake)
Ingredients:
- 1kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 300ml double cream
- 200ml milk
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 pinch grated nutmeg
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Butter, for greasing
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Layer sliced potatoes in the dish, seasoning each layer with salt, pepper, and a hint of nutmeg.
- In a saucepan, heat cream, milk, and garlic until just simmering. Pour over the potatoes.
- Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake a further 20 minutes until golden and bubbling.
- Let rest before serving. Enjoy with a glass of Côte-Rôtie 'Bassenon' for a classic Northern Rhône pairing.
