Dormilona Chardonnay 2024

Dormilona Chardonnay is a Margaret River Chardonnay from a Willyabrup vineyard.

Willyabrup is the heart of Margaret River for Chardonnay, and the site behind this vintage has ironstone gravel running through sandy loam. Whole bunches were hand harvested and pressed straight into a mix of amphorae, barrel and two and three-year-old puncheons, with no new wood anywhere. The wine sat on lees in all of them, but only the barrels were stirred, which brings softness to the parcels that need it while leaving the amphora fruit clean and direct. Compared with earlier releases, 2024 carries more weight and flesh. It was bottled in December of the same year.

There is white peach and grapefruit here with a creamy edge, a saline thread and a finish that stays dry. Eleven to twelve degrees. Put it with roast chicken, seared scallops, a leek tart, or grilled marron if the budget stretches.
