Dormilona Cupid Chenin Blanc 2024

Dormilona Cupid Chenin Blanc is a skin-fermented Margaret River Chenin Blanc raised in concrete egg.

Jo Perry and Jim, her viticulturist partner, have made short work of Yungarra Estate since taking it on, a certified organic vineyard midway between Dunsborough and Yallingup with some of the best views in the region. Gravelly loam over limestone is the soil, and the farming is close enough that the fruit arriving at the cellar needs very little done to it. This Chenin was picked by hand, destemmed, and fermented on skins in a concrete egg with one plunge a day. Once malolactic finished, the basket press moved it to a second egg for three months before hand bottling.

Skin contact gives a savoury edge to what is otherwise a generous wine: baked apple, beeswax and citrus peel, with a firm dry finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees. It is a good match for roast pork, chicken with preserved lemon, or a pumpkin and feta tart.
