Description
Famille Perrin Gigondas L'Argnée Vieilles Vignes is an old vine Grenache from a single high-lying site in Gigondas.
L'Argnee is a lieu-dit set among the sandy, stony soils of the Gigondas hillsides, below the Dentelles de Montmirail, the limestone ridge that dominates this corner of the southern Rhone. The appellation was elevated to cru status in 1971 and is built on Grenache, which here comes from very old vines that yield little and root deep, with Syrah in a supporting role. The Perrin family, who have farmed Chateau de Beaucastel for four generations and work organically across their vineyards, treat this parcel as a separate cuvee, harvesting and ageing it apart from their other Gigondas fruit. Parcels like this are increasingly bottled on their own as growers map the appellation in finer detail.
Decant an hour ahead and serve at around 17 degrees with roast lamb, hare or a long-cooked stew; it will cellar for a decade or more.
