Forest Hill Vineyard Block 8 Chardonnay 2025

Forest Hill Vineyard Block 8 Chardonnay is a tightly focused Chardonnay from a single block at Forest Hill's Mount Barker vineyard.

Great Southern Chardonnay has a reputation for precision and length, helped by the region's maritime influence and long, cool growing season. Forest Hill, one of the area's first vineyards, bottles Block 8 separately because of the distinctive salty drive the site gives its fruit. The 2025 is pale straw, lifted in the glass with white stone fruit, lemon curd, brioche and a flinty edge. The palate is described as pithy and citrusy with grilled white nectarine and a faint nougat note, carried by driving acidity to a long, saline finish.

Open it with oysters, whole baked snapper or crumbed veal. Serve cool but not ice cold, and expect it to develop well over several years.
