Garagiste Tuerong Aligoté 2021

Garagiste Tuerong Aligoté is a single-puncheon Aligoté from 30-year-old vines in the sandy loams of Tuerong.

There are only three Aligoté plantings of any note in the country, and one of them is the Mornington mother vineyard that gave cuttings to the other two, in the Whitlands district and at Blind Corner in Margaret River. Three rows of vines over 30 years old supply this wine, hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed into one old puncheon, where it fermented and then rested ten months on its large, soft lees. Barney Flanders finds detail and fineness in this release, along with elegance and spice, in the third incarnation of what remains his smallest-batch wine.

Delicate and detailed, with citrus fruit, herbal savour and a bitter melon and grapefruit pith impression, carried on fine-boned acidity and real phenolic tension. Serve at 10 degrees. Good with oysters, grilled sardines or a plate of prosciutto and olives.
