Description
Georges Duboeuf Domaine Du Prieuré Fleurie Saint-Romain is a single estate bottling from Fleurie, the cru long known as the queen of Beaujolais.
Fleurie sits in the middle of the ten crus, on pink granite that breaks down into a thin, sandy topsoil, and its reds have been prized for a lightness of touch rather than for muscle. A chapel dedicated to the Madonna crowns the hill above the village and looks out over the vineyards. Georges Duboeuf built his house at Romanèche-Thorins from 1964 onwards, and alongside the appellation blends he has always bottled wines from individual growers and estates under their own names. Gamay is the only variety permitted, hand harvested as the appellation requires and fermented in the semi-carbonic manner.
Serve lightly chilled at around 14 degrees with roast chicken, pork, charcuterie or soft cheeses; it will hold for three to five years, and is worth a light chill even in cool weather.
