Girlan IGT Vigneti delle Dolomiti Blanco 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Girlan IGT Vigneti delle Dolomiti Blanco is an Alto Adige blend of Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grown at 448 metres.

Girlan is a growers' cooperative based at Cornaiano, in the hills above Bolzano, and it works with member parcels on the mineral-rich slopes of that canton. This white is half Pinot Blanc, with the balance split between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc: the Pinot Blanc supplies the frame and quiet weight, the Chardonnay a little breadth, the Sauvignon Blanc the aromatic edge. All the fruit is grown at 448 metres above sea level, which gives the wine its name, a number that carries a second meaning locally, since 'quattro quattro otto' is a Cornaiano expression for hurry up. Altitude and the sharp day-to-night temperature swing of the Dolomite foothills hold acidity in place through ripening. It is made as a straightforward Alpine white for early drinking rather than a wine to put away.

Drink now and over the next two years; serve at 10-11°C with asparagus, river trout or a plate of speck.
