Description

Gundog Estate Smoking Barrel Shiraz is a savoury, medium-bodied Shiraz from New South Wales.

The Hunter Valley is Australia's oldest continuously producing wine region, and its warm, humid summers, with rain and afternoon cloud, lead to a lighter style. Shiraz here is traditionally earthy and savoury with fine tannins and good ageing potential. Matt Burton follows that restrained, food-friendly line, and as the label hints, oak barrels help shape the spicy, savoury character without heavy wood.

Savoury spice and fine tannins make it an easy match for barbecued meats, lamb shanks, sausages or aged cheddar. Pour at 16–18°C and drink it now or over the next few years.
