Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay 2018

Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay is a cool-climate Chardonnay from the Upper Yarra Valley.

The D'Anna family planted at Hoddles Creek in 1997, on a high, cool site in the upper reaches of the Yarra Valley where ripening runs late and acidity holds naturally. Franco d'Anna has made the estate Chardonnay the same way for decades: pick it, press it, leave it on full solids, rack it to barrel and let it get on with things. Old oak does most of the work, new oak very little, and the wine is generally bottled without fuss. For a wine at this price, the consistency across vintages is the thing worth noting.

Chalky and dry, with grapefruit, white peach and a faintly smoky finish, and acidity that keeps everything in line. Serve at 11 degrees. It handles roast chicken, grilled fish or a simple pasta with cream and lemon without breaking stride.
