Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay 2022

Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay is the estate bottling of Chardonnay from the D'Anna family vineyards at Hoddles Creek.

Sitting high in the Upper Yarra, this is one of the cooler patches of a cool region, and the estate vineyards have been in the ground since 1997. Franco d'Anna's method here is famously unchanged: whole-bunch pressing, full solids, barrel ferment in mostly older oak, and as little interference as he can manage. He looks after 130 acres of vines with a very small team, which perhaps explains the preference for doing less. The estate Chardonnay has long been the reference point for value in Victorian Chardonnay.

Citrus, nectarine and a saline mineral note, with a quiet creaminess from the lees and a dry, persistent finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees. Roast chicken, prawn risotto or a wedge of comté suit it.
