Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir 2018

Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir is a cool-climate Pinot Noir from the Upper Yarra Valley.

The home vineyards were planted in 1997 on a high, cool site at Hoddles Creek, well up the valley from the warmer Yarra Glen and Coldstream plantings, and Pinot Noir is the variety the D'Anna family built the place around. Franco d'Anna's approach is consistent and low-key: natural ferments, a modest whole-bunch component where the season allows, mostly older French oak, and bottling without fining or filtration. The estate Pinot Noir has been one of the reliably underpriced reds in Victoria for years.

Light on its feet, with red cherry, raspberry leaf and a little forest floor over fine tannin and fresh acidity. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees. It works with roast chicken, salmon, charcuterie or a mushroom tart, and does not need a special occasion.
