Jean-Louis Chave Sélection Côtes du Rhône 'Mon Coeur' Rouge 2023

Jean-Louis Chave Sélection Côtes du Rhône 'Mon Coeur' Rouge is a generous, medium-bodied Grenache and Syrah blend from the Rhône Valley.

The Chave family have made Hermitage at Mauves for sixteen generations, and this is their négociant label. They buy fruit and wine from growers they know well and raise it in their own cellars to their own standards, so it reads like a domaine wine. Grenache leads, mostly from the northern part of the southern Rhône around villages such as Vinsobres and Rasteau, where altitude keeps it fresh. Tank fermentation and large older wood, with no new oak, let the fruit and the peppery edge show.

Red and black fruit, pepper and soft tannin. This one's for the table, not the cellar: pour it at 16–17°C with grilled meats, sausages or ratatouille.
