Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon is a generous, structured Cabernet named for one of cricket's classic shots.

In 1997 Peter Barry went looking for Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil and found it on a retired cricket ground, which he bought and planted, naming the wine after the elegant cover drive. The family, based in the Clare Valley since Jim Barry founded the business in 1959, grows all the fruit for this wine on its own vineyards, and the 2022 draws on estate Cabernet from both Coonawarra and the Clare Valley. It spends around 12 months in French oak, which gives cedar and cigar tobacco notes to the bramble and plum fruit, along with chocolatey depth and firm, framing tannins.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with a chargrilled scotch fillet, lamb shanks or a hearty lasagne. It's approachable now and will develop further over the next several years.
