Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese comes from the sundial vineyard that has defined the estate's style for a century.

Wehlener Sonnenuhr is one of the Mosel's most famous sites, a steep sweep of grey Devonian slate above the village of Wehlen, named for the sundial built into the slope in the 1840s. Joh. Jos. Prüm, now led by Katharina Prüm, is the estate most closely associated with the vineyard and works it in an unhurried, traditional way: whole-bunch pressing, long, cool, spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and bottling with natural residual sweetness. At Spätlese level the wines remain light in body, but flavour intensity and depth of character rise markedly against the Kabinett. This is a matter of more flesh and more power rather than overt sweetness, which is why Katharina Prüm regards the category as the estate's most versatile at the table. The slate gives the wine its saline, mineral spine and its capacity to age for decades.

Thrilling young but built to gain complexity for many years; match with Thai or Sichuan dishes, roast pork or charcuterie. Serve at 8–10°C.
