Description
Lambert Crudo Rosé is a bone-dry Yarra Valley rosé from Shiraz grown on granite.
Fifteen years in the ground on a granite-rich northeast slope at Denton gives these Shiraz vines enough depth to carry a wine this pale. Bunches were pressed whole and fermented wild in tank, then held in a 4,000-litre French oak foudre before bottling unfined, unfiltered and with barely any sulphur. There is no attempt to dress it up as a summer drink; the 2022 reads leaner and more linear than the season before, with the tannin and grip a rosé needs to sit at the table. Luke and Rosalind Lambert make it the same way each year and let the vintage decide the rest.
Crunchy summer berries over a stony core, with grippy texture and a bone-dry, invigorating close driven by tangy acidity. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. Match it with a charcuterie board, grilled octopus, lamb kofta or a pissaladière.
