Laughing Jack Greenock Shiraz 2018

Laughing Jack Greenock Shiraz is an own-rooted, single-vineyard Barossa Shiraz from the East Block.

Land that had been in Kalleske hands for close to 150 years carried sheep and crops before anything else; Shawn Kalleske was convinced the ironstone at Greenock would suit Shiraz and planted in 1999. He was right, and the family have been pleased with the results since the first crop. The East Block is own-rooted and planted to a mix of clones, including the original Shiraz selection from the 1890 Greenock property. Fermentation happened in open-top vessels, the wine went to the basket press, then twenty months in mostly new and seasoned French hogsheads.

Deep crimson, with dark plum and blackberry over the ferrous, earthy note Greenock stamps on its reds. Real depth of fruit, balanced enough to drink now with food and built to hold for a decade. Serve at 17 degrees. Try it with a porterhouse, braised beef or a slow-cooked ragù.
