Laughing Jack Jack's Shiraz 2019

Laughing Jack Jack's Shiraz is a Barossa Shiraz blended across the family's three vineyards.

Three Kalleske sites feed this wine, and the 2019 leans on Greenock at 64 per cent, with 24 from Marananga and 12 from Moppa. Everything was destemmed and moved into a mix of open-top fermenters, hand plunged twice a day. Maturation ran twenty-two months in oak, with only a few per cent new French and American in the mix and seasoned barrels doing the rest, which keeps the wood in the background and the fruit in front. It is the workhorse of the range and the one that most consistently drinks above its price.

Dark plum and blackberry with sweet spice and a little chocolate, full and smooth through the middle, finishing long. Serve at 17 degrees. Good with a barbecued steak, lamb roast, beef burgers or a wedge of aged cheddar.
