Laughing Jack Jack's Shiraz 2020

Laughing Jack Jack's Shiraz is a Barossa Shiraz drawn mostly from the Greenock vineyard.

Greenock carries 75 per cent of the 2020, with Marananga at 15 and Moppa at 10, three sites within a few kilometres of each other that behave quite differently. Fruit was fully destemmed and spread across open-top fermenters, hand plunged twice daily, then given twenty months in barrel: 6 per cent new French, 2 per cent new American, the balance seasoned. Shawn Kalleske has no interest in making this taste expensive; he makes it taste like the Barossa. For anyone after a classic regional Shiraz without paying for a label, it is an easy decision.

Blackberry, plum and dark spice, full-bodied but not jammy, with ripe tannin and a long, warm finish. Serve at 17 degrees. It handles a rib-eye, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, a shepherd's pie or a plate of aged cheese.
