Description

Le Macchiole Scrio is a rare and sophisticated 100% Syrah from the Bolgheri region, produced in extremely limited quantities. The 2019 vintage benefits from a reductive winemaking approach that preserves the natural fragrance and finesse of the grape. Fermented in stainless steel and cement, the wine is aged in a combination of tonneaux, truncated cement vats, and ceramic vessels. The result is an elegant, polished Syrah with a trim yet vibrant mouthfeel, beautifully integrated tannins, and a refined structure. Scrio expresses varietal purity without being over-extracted, delivering complexity, grace, and long ageing potential.

Winery

Le Macchiole is one of Tuscany's most respected estates, founded in the 1980s by Eugenio Campolmi and now led by Cinzia Merli. Known for their single-varietal focus, the winery is dedicated to showcasing the Bolgheri terroir through precise, small-production wines. Scrio is their interpretation of Syrah—a wine of incredible balance and elegance, made using low-intervention techniques that highlight the grape's character without heaviness. Only 3,800 bottles of the 2019 vintage were produced, making this a truly collectible and age-worthy wine.

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef sirloin or ribeye

  • Fresh rocket (arugula)
  • Shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano
  • Lemon juice for dressing

Instructions:

  1. Season and sear the beef to medium-rare. Rest and slice thinly.
